First — what is Plex?

Plex is a streaming app, like Netflix, except the library is mine instead of a studio’s. I run a server at home that stores the movies and shows; Plex is the app you use to watch them.

You install Plex, sign in, and my library shows up alongside anything else you have. There’s nothing to pay, nothing to download to your device unless you want offline copies, and no ads.

How it works

  1. Get your invite code from me

    Invite codes are handed out one at a time — over text, Discord, or email. If you don't have one yet, message me and I'll send one over.

  2. Type it into the box above

    Enter the code and hit Continue. If I sent you a full link instead of a code, you can paste the whole thing in — it'll sort itself out.

  3. Create your Plex account (or sign in)

    The invite page walks you through it. If you've ever used Plex before, just sign in with that account — you don't need a new one.

  4. That's it — the library shows up

    Open Plex on any device, sign in, and my server appears in your list. Nothing else to configure.

Questions
Does this cost anything?
No. The server, the library, and your access are free. Plex itself is free to use — you’ll see them advertise Plex Pass, but you don’t need it for any of this.
What devices does it work on?
Just about anything: iPhone, Android, smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast), Xbox, PlayStation, and any web browser. If it streams, it probably has a Plex app.
Something I want isn't in the library. Can I add it?
Yes — that’s what the request page is for. Search for the movie or show, hit request, and it gets added automatically once it’s available. You’ll get a notification when it’s ready to watch.
A show won't play, or the quality looks bad.
Usually it’s the server transcoding for your device or your connection dipping. Try lowering the quality setting in the Plex app first. If it keeps happening, tell me — it’s more likely my problem than yours.
Can I download things to watch offline?
Downloads for offline viewing need Plex Pass on your account, which is a Plex thing rather than a server thing. Streaming works fine without it.
Can I share my login with someone else?
Please don’t — send them my way for their own invite instead. Shared logins make it impossible for me to tell who’s using what, and simultaneous streams on one account will kick each other off. If someone you know is intrested in joining, PLEASE TELL ME FIRST!!!!
Is the server always up?
Mostly. I pay almost $80+ a month for the server, There shouldn’t be any connections issues. If issues pop up please don’t hesitate to contact me!
